Eeram - The long awaited rains in Kollywood…

Impressed with the surprisingly refreshing recent Tamil movie 'Eeram', i ve been inspired to do something different too.. a movie review! There have been some of my 'comments' on movies in this blog such as these, Ofcourse Rani is still the queen, 3-in-1 movie review, Movie and a meal and of course my superhit post Push up my bra like that, Porno Paparazzi Girl (highest hits n comments on my blog until now..for all the rong reasons!)... i wudnt call any of them a professional review tho. (PS: all comments got deleted wen i shifted to this blog address :( )

Here is my buddin attempt at actually reviewing a movie...(other than the so-called reviews i've written in the film studies paper at college :D), read on.. and gimme ur review on it!

Eeram - The long awaited rains in Kollywood…

Quenching the thirst of the many who watch movies for more than mere time pass and entertainment, here is a winner, the no-nonsense super natural thriller, Eeram, a deep, involving and intelligent movie made by a team that seems to know what they are doing pretty well! What a relief from the commercial mind-less flicks, Eeram, as the name suggests, is definitely a patch of wetness amidst the dryness, it is a day of drizzles in super hot Chennai.

Eeram belongs to that genre of movies that release without much commotion and noise, but spreads through word of mouth and becomes a super-hit gradually. The professionalism and quality in the movie, and every aspect of it, speaks for itself and there is no need for huge budgets and sex appeal, when you rely on talent and confidence. No big stars, no song-and-dance sequences and of course no punch dialogues in the script. Produced by Shankar and directed by his assistant Arivazhagan, the cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa is the best part of the movie, sets it a class apart!

The movie opens with the death of the female lead, Ramya (Sindhu Menon), the wife of Bala (Nanda) and the introduction of her past love interest Vasudevan (Aadhi) as the police officer investigating on her case. The film then flashes between scenes from their past and the crime investigation in the present. The love scenes from the flashback are a pleasant colorful relief to the almost black and white, always gloomy present. The ghost of Ramya, trying to prove her character to the people who shunned her when she was alive, uses ‘water’ to be her medium to kill her victims and the entire movie is literally themed on it, with little sunshine. Will Aadhi be able to help her out and save more deaths at the same time? Will he be able to find the mystery behind her death and find the person responsible for it, while his department loses trust in him? The mystery is not so hard to solve, you almost guess the accused right in the beginning, but the screenplay keeps you so engrossed, startles you at the precise moments and of course it is more than pleasing to the eye to watch Chennai all cloudy, rainy and picturesque all the time!

The director has taken a lot of care into the minutest of detail, in producing every tiny little necessary element into scenes, representing lifestyle, culture, character and logic, very subtly without jarring immature contrasts in anything. The script is very smart and adds to the mystery element of the movie well. The logic is never tampered through out the movie, a well thought-out plot. The editing and graphics add to the overall quality of the movie, so naturally done, unlike many cheesy graphics we get to watch nowadays. Aadhi does need a special mention for his outstanding performance.

Overall, professionalism is the key word for the movie ‘Eeram’, a must-watch for true cinema lovers.

maddie.. shankar's productions rite?.. i think this one almost like kadhal in publicity.. the first few weeks ran empty with all new faces and no commercials for the movie...and then suddenly became a superhit jus thro word of mouth promos...

Good one!!Am sure even the most skeptical tamil film viewer will watch this one.

One small tip[not that am a pro reviewer :P] there is a thin line which seperates the reviewer from letting out spoilers in story, very tricky line too.Try reading the review as someone who has not seen the movie but may be planning to...ok ok enough of my gyaan :D

yea..point taken.. thanks :)

i wanted to give a spoiler alert disclaimer in the beginning.. instead i changed some lines so they don reveal the mystery.. thought its better than chasin away readers b4 they read! :)

and most other sites are giving out upto this part of the story on the internet anyway.. i have tried to not exceed that limit

I went for this film only coz Arivazhagan is a friend to my best friend Soma and that I knew the editor Sabu who did the trailer. But it turned to be an unexpected surprise. Truly enjoyed every frame - both the visual as well as the audio bit. A well-designed film by an extremely talented crew. I guess we can now expect a genuine change in the pattern of tamil film since it is a HIT. The only dis-appointment was some posters of the film probably targeted at B-C class audience, quite misleading. Btwn your review is equally interesting as a start. Usually reviewers end up being just story-tellers which is not the idea of reviewing. :) Good job. Glad that u write about this film.

Aiyoo Ramchandarji ! i am scared of Tamil movies. i mean i am too weak. You need a lot of strength to watch them. You have to eat well. You seem to watch so many and You are writing about them and you must be a very strong person.

Do you fight ? do you beat up peepals ? i mean maar dharr, dhishoom bhisoom ?
i am scared of you toos. Aiyoo ! Please have mercy on me, i weigh 54Kgs vonly vonly bones madam, poor thing i am i was 58Kgs last month. Let me tell you how i lost 4 kgs.

i was perfectly alright when i boarded a bus at cuddalore. i din notice it had a TV. oh deeah !
one speaker was right above my head. Ha ! five minutes on ECR road the movie was on. i couldn't jump out. i am old and i am very poor mans, i mean i am a sadak chaap. can't afford to buy anodder tikkat.
what was the movie ?
Rajni Kanth, intolerable
He was driving autorickshaw all over the place, just driving and bashing up peepals or singing and dancing and bashing up peepals again,
Gaata ya maarta Aiyoo Aiyoo !
By the time i reached Adyar, i had very high fever and i was shivering.

hello sir! thanks for u long comment... but u cudve spent half of that time spent to read the damn review :) and what it says, b4 commentin on it!

i ve to totally agree with u tht tamil commercial movies made for the masses are absurd entertainment.. u gota keep ur brains at home sit bak n watch it ...the prob is there are ppl in the country call the C class audience who come to the cinemas jus to forget their daily life and have some fun ...its their esc from reality and yes all of us have learnt to love it too in the process..

There are gazillion movies with a class (very much unlike bollywood!) that come out in tamil, and thts exctly wat this review is all about.

Btw I am not too strong, its impossible for me to sit thro the first 1/10th of a bollywood movie (which goes upto 1 hr i think) with 33 song n dance sequences already and yet lata mangeshkar echoing at the playbak and people cryin tons n tons of glycerine... herds of anorexic women desperate to display more than the other..and yea mindless underground culture and cheap toilet comedy...nop m not tht strong.. i havent managed to completely watch one such movie with names tht are longer in their shortest abbrevation DDIJ HAHT PPKHTL DPLKM and watever

and yea i guess ur own comment explains y u feel like an outsider after yrs of being in here..stop stereotypin ..open ur eyes and c wats real!

PS: i think u shud rather stick to ram gopal varmas pathetic attempt at makin so-called supernatural thrillers...now that we kno ur super-strong :)

oh and don be scared of me toossss i don beat up peePALS who have a pre-conceived notion...i am only just very mean to them!
